Fultonville teen historian tackles cemetery

FULTONVILLE, N.Y. — While most high school juniors are trying to get their hands on the latest fashions or fastest ride, Ryan Weitz is much more interested in the past.
“Most 16-year-olds aren’t in cemeteries all the time,” Weitz said.
Weitz’s love for the old found its way to one of his teachers, who just happened to be Fultonville’s Mayor.
“I’ve been looking for a long time to get the younger ones involved and all of a sudden it dawned on me, I think Ryan would be a great historian for the village,” Mayor Robert Headwell Jr. said.
The rest is, well, history. Weitz took the job, becoming the youngest historian in the state.
“I was shocked by it. Usually historians are above fifty, way above fifty,” Weitz said.
