Yard Debris Pick Up Guidelines

Written: August 24, 2018

All Yard Debris must be curb side of each village residence by 6 a.m. of the pickup day.

If yard waste is NOT out at this time, it must wait until next pick up.

VILLAGE STAFF WILL NOT PICK UP YARD WASTE THAT IS NOT CURB SIDE.

Yard Debris is defined as materials of organic nature, i.e. lawn clippings, leaves, branches, soil etc.

All yard debris must be in a container that can be dumped into the village truck.

No longer will we pick up yard clippings that are loose at the curb.

All branches are to be cut into 4 foot lengths.

Rocks and stones MUST be placed in a container. Such container will be taken and brought back to the curbside.  Such container must not weigh more than 25 pounds.

Leaves may be raked to the curb and will be picked up by village staff.

Yard debris will be picked up Monday and Friday mornings from April 1 (weather permitting) to November 30 (weather permitting).

Discarded live Christmas trees will be picked up each year beginning on 12/26 to January 10.

PLEASE NOTE THAT IT IS A CODE VIOLATION TO ACCUMULATE TRASH AND GARBAGE, OLD APPLIANCES, AND OTHER ITEMS AROUND YOUR RESIDENCE

WATER METER UPDATE :

The current water meters are over 25 years old. Due to this, most or our meters are not reading accurately.  If your quarterly meter reading ends in zeros, then your readings are estimated.

In our most recent annual budget that our board passed on April 30, 2018, the board anticipated a $50,000+ loss in revenue for water services due to the accuracy of the new meters and expected savings to our residents.

In addition, we researched and passed new water rates that went into effect on June 1, 2018, which should also reflect transparency in billing, resident accountability for usage, and a savings for our residents.

The new meters will read accurately within one thousandth of a gallon, which will make it almost impossible for residents to be overcharged.  In addition, the new meters will detect when a resident may have a leak of some kind which will in affect draw more water than the resident usually uses and we can then alert them to this before there is a problem.

Although our residents are paying a portion of the meter cost and the install cost, the village is picking up the majority of the cost for equipment, install, software and other anticipated and unanticipated costs. This is an accepted municipal practice. We have set up easy plans to pay – monthly, quarterly, etc.

The payment time runs through April 2019.

All meters are the same model, will be clamped for security and anti-tampering.  All meters will be installed by the same company for uniformity. That company is East National Water.

Flooding in the village had nothing to do with the municipal water service and affected most of the residents here on the flat of Fultonville.  Property values are now on the upswing here. The village has worked with FEMA ARMY CORPS of ENGINEERS to build Dry Dock Creek Gate that closes when the water levels rise to a certain level on the river. In addition, we work with the canal services and county emergency management services to make sure that we stay on top of weather conditions and anticipate the actions that need to be taken to do our best to prevent a reoccurrence.

Also, FEMA recently remapped the flood zones, and for now, most of us are required to purchase federal flood insurance. We are hopeful that this will be revised in the future if we stay on top of weather conditions.

We have recently begun remodeling our village office. We have removed the court set up and replaced it with a space more condusive to a meeting type format. Stop by and take a look! Or join us at a village meeting!!
